Job Application Follow-Up

If you are looking for a job and you have forwarded your resume and cover letter to a prospective employer, or have filled out a paper or online application, don’t stop there and wait to hear from the employer.

Employers receive lots of resumes and applications.  They need to know if you really want to work for them.  Help yourself by helping the employer in his or her applicant screening process……do a phone or email follow-up!

After you have submitted a resume or completed an application for employment, wait for 3 to 5 business days, then follow-up with a phone call or email to the employer.  The follow-up lets the employer know that you are interested in their company and that you are serious about working for them.  This can put you one step closer to an interview.

The follow-up allows you:

  • To re-introduce yourself to the employer
  • To find out if they received your resume or on-line application
  • To re-affirm your qualifications and interest in the position, and
  • It gives you another opportunity to ask for an interview.

Keep the follow-up brief, but allow enough time to show your interest in being hired.
