13 Shiawassee RESD Students Toured Two Local Businesses

Young Chevrolet Cadillac in Owosso, a large automotive dealership. Lead by HR, students toured the service department, body shop, and sales floor. The managers from each of these departments talked with students and shared their own employment history, told their personal stories of starting out in entry-level positions with the company and how they were promoted through hard work, updating their skills, and adapting to the changes within the industry.

The second tour was at Pleasant View, Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility in Owosso. Students learned about positions in nursing, dietary, activities, therapy, housekeeping, and maintenance. The HR manager discussed their entry-level positions and described the skills and attributes they are looking for in the individuals they hire. The students learned that Pleasant View also likes to promote from within.

Both businesses shared important information with the students about the education, training, and certification requirements needed for positions within their companies. They also discussed employment opportunities and reviewed the hiring process. It was an informative day and the feedback from students was very positive.

Transportation was provided by Shiawassee Area Transportation Agency (SATA).
