Lapeer County: Marchell came to the Lapeer Service Center looking for assistance to finish her last two semesters of the Nursing Program at Mott Community College. Marchell has been a stay-at-home mom since 2007. In 2013 she decided to start school for a career in nursing. Marchell had worked as a dietary aide at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility for seven years.
Marchell struggled with financing the end of her training. She did not want anything to interfere with her studies and time with her family. Marchelle applied for services in May of 2017 and qualified for assistance because of her long-term unemployment and lack of a degree.
After becoming eligible GST Michigan Works! in Lapeer applied funds toward her semester tuition which helper her immediate financial struggles. Marchell successfully completed her training at Mott in December of 2017. She accepted a position at the Lapeer Medical Care Facility as an RN with a wage of $31.50/hour in March. This was a $22.40/hour increase from her previous position. Marchell was proud to be employed again. This time in her dream job of being a Registered Nurse.
