Flint – Brian Clark dropped out of high school in the 10th grade and desired a sense of purpose in his life. He decided to contact the Metro Flint Youth Build (MFYB) program to resume his education and receive career training through the B-CON (Building and Green Construction Program). The GST Michigan Works! Career Services Lead Career Coach Kim Streeter and the MFYB Program Manager enrolled Brian in the WIOA OOSY/Metro Flint Youth Build program in December 2017. The Metro Flint Youth Build program is an education combined with training program, where participants can earn a GED while learning construction skills; participate in community projects and leadership activities. Throughout his program participation, Career Services provided Brian with career coaching, including career exploration, goal setting for academic/job success, cover letter/resume preparation assistance.

Brian always remained focused in achieving his goals. He completed his GED in a very short time and successfully completed B-Con training. Because of his outstanding work ethic and leadership skills, he was recommended by MFYB and his Career Coach to participate in an extended work experience with W.T. Stevens, a local construction company. Career Services provided necessary support services during his work experience participation to ensure his success. Brian’s performanceevaluations/reports from his supervisor and MFYB staff were always extremely positive and as a result of his outstanding work performance and leadership skills, he was offered a full-time position at W.T.
