Healthcare Program Accomplished!

Diamond Fordham is a Youth participant from the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) Program, a GST Michigan Works! Service Provider. Diamond was working as a Direct Care Worker when she learned about the FHEO Program from a co-worker. She knew that she wanted to become a Certified Nurse Assistant, as she greatly enjoyed providing direct care to her clients. Diamond followed the FHEO Program recruitment process and was accepted into the program in June of 2019.

Diamond completed 120 hours of Professional Life Skills & Healthcare Career Exploration Training before entering credential training. She shared that through this training she learned how to better manage time, prepare for an interview, and communicate with others. While in training, Diamond also participated in subsidized employment with McLaren Flint as a Patient Transporter. Diamond shared that working as a Patient Transporter was an excellent opportunity because she was able to explore many departments in the hospital and network with other healthcare professionals.

Diamond completed Certified Nurse Assitant training at Charter Healthcare Training Center in July 2019 and passed her certification exam on her first attempt. Shortly thereafter, Diamond secured employment as Regency of Grand Blanc as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Diamond shared that she has enrolled in courses for January 2020 at Mott Community College to obtain an Associate of Applied Science, Nursing to further her healthcare career goals.

Congratulations to Diamond as she excels in her new healthcare career!
