Alla Blessing is an Adult participant from the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) Program, a GST Michigan Works! Service Provider. A friend of Alla’s who had previously been a Program participant had recommended the opportunity to her. Alla was looking to change her career from retail and further develop her professional skills. Alla followed the FHEO Program recruitment process and was accepted into the Program in June of 2018.
Alla completed 120 hours of Professional Life Skills and Healthcare Career Exploration training before beginning credential training. Alla stated that this training was “a great experience”, and that she was “given the ability to present myself in a professional way.” Alla also shared that she learned how to created a resume and prepare for job interviews. Overall, Alla said that she gained a lot of useful knowledge that she will use in her healthcare profession.
Alla entered into Medical Assistant training at Mott Workforce Development in September 2018. After training, she completed a clinical externship with McLaren Flint to further develop her skill set. Alla completed Medical Assistant training in March 2019. and began to apply for positions. She worked with the FHEO Program staff during this time to update her resume and practice interviewing skills. Alla was diligent with her job search and with the assistance of the FHEO Program Career Servies Coordinator, Alla was offered a position with Hurley Medical Center Family Practice in Lapeer. She starts this position in January 2020.
