Pesticide Safety Day is an annual event co-sponsored by GST Michigan Works! and the Thumb Area Conservation Districts including Bluewater CD (Sanilac, St Clair and Macomb), Huron CD, Tuscola CD and Lapeer CD. We always reserve the last Friday in February to train farmers, farm employees and commercial applicators in the proper use of chemical application equipment and following pesticide rules and regulations.
Past topics have included drift management, label setbacks, proper use of PPE, spill clean-up demonstrations, spray tip selection and other topics relevant to farm production such as resistance management. It is an informal morning of learning, net-working, asking questions, sometimes heated discussion and always good coffee and donuts. Restricted Use Pesticide credits and Certified Crop Advisor credits are always available as well as qualifying for MAEAP verification with Phase One Education credit.
