FHEO Program Partnership Success!

Arika McClain is a Youth participant from the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) Program, a GST Michigan Works! Service Provider. Arika was working as a housekeeper when she learned of the FHEO Program from a co-worker. Arik attended an Information Session and it was there that she chose to pursue a career as a Certified Nurse Assistant. 

Arika followed the FHEO Pogram’s recruitment process which required her to complete 120 hours of Professional Life Skills & Healthcare Career Exploration Training. She shared that this training was essential to prepare her to work in healthcare and remove barriers to employment. While in training, Arika attended Talent Tours at the University of Michigan-Flint, Hulrye Medical Center, and Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy.

Arika completed Cerfied Nurse Assistant training at Charter Healthcare Training Center in May 2019 and passed her certification exam on her first attempt. Shortly thereafter, Arika secured employment at Willowbrook Manor as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Arika shared that she I thankful for her experience with the FHEO Program and that she has benefited from having a support system to help her through training. In the future, Arika would like to continue her education to become a Registered Nurse.
