Another Successful FHEO Program Success Story!

Aleah Smith is an Out of School Youth Participant from the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) Program, a GST Michigan Works! Service Provider. Before joining the FHEO Program, Aleah was working in retail when she decided that she wanted to pursue a career in healthcare because she enjoys helping others.

Once accepted into the FHEO Program, Aleah completed 120 hours of Life Skills and Healthcare Career Exploration Training at Flint STRIVE. During this time, Aleah shared that she was able to develop workplace skills like communication. Aleah demonstrated her dedication to her new profession by completing a subsidized employment experience with Hamilton Community Health Network in the Human Resources department. Aleah shared this experience allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of how healthcare systems operate. During this tie, Aleah also attended Medical Assistant training at Mott Workforce Development.

Sue to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Aleah experienced a gap in training but was able to graduate in the Summer of 2020. After earning her certificate, Aleah accepted a position with Hamilton Community Health Network as a Medical Assistant. Aleah states that she considers this potion a launchpad for her future healthcare career, possibly in Respiratory Therapy. Congratulations to Aleah as you grow your healthcare career!
