RESEA Leads to New Career Choice

Sanilac- Karen Morris was referred to GST Michigan Works! through the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) Program in August of 2019. At that time Karen had been laid off from her job of over 3 years. While working in her previous job Karen learned that she had a passion for the Medical Field.  During Karen’s RESEA orientation training opportunities were presented. Karen decided at that point she needed to make a career move. Karen had a family to support and she needed to find a position that she could support them while following her own career interests.

In October of 2019, Karen entered training at the Sanilac Career Center in the Medical Administrative Assistant program. During her training, she incorporated her previous work experience while learning the technical skills required for her new program. She learned Medical Laws, Medical Terminology, and requirements of Medical Insurance billing and coding. This training along with years of customer service work history helped prepare Karen for a Career that she could be proud of.

Karen completed her training in December of 2019. Little did she know that the next year of her life and the trials and tribulations of the COVID 19 pandemic would draw her into the career and the happiness that she had been looking for. Karen started work on June 6th, 2020 at Deckerville Community Hospital as an Office Assistant. Karen works full-time earning an excellent wage.

Karen’s training allowed her the skills and stability to continue her journey into the Medical Field and into a job that she is proud of. She goes to work looking forward to the day. She is there to help people in her community get the best care possible.
