Local Workforce Development Organizations are Teaming up to Get Flint Youth Working
GST MI Works! and Mott Workforce & Economic Development have collaborated on making learning accessible
Flint, MI – Happening today! Twenty youth from the Flint area enrolled in the GST MI Works! Young Professionals Summer youth program. Lead by GST MI Works! Youth Services Leader Ray Barry. The program helps young adults ages 18-24 kickstart their careers by gaining valuable work experience. The program offers a two-week paid development training and ninety days of work experience. Each participant may be able to hire in after their ninety days are complete.
Participants get a free Chromebook, free resume and cover letter assistance, CPR/BLS/AED certification, SERV Safe certification, a Financial Literacy class from ELGA Credit Union, mock interviews, soft skills training and more!
With the collaboration of Mott Workforce & Economic Development, the participants of the Young Professionals Program received training in computer skills and manufacturing. Next week the twenty participants enrolled will start their new jobs on Monday, June 27th. They will be working in several industries: manufacturing, healthcare, retail, government, and food services.
The City of Flint is a community partner of GST MI Works!, they have accepted six of the GST MI Works! Young Professionals. Those students will begin their ninety-day program with the City of Flint Police Department on Monday, June 27th, as the other participants jump-start their careers at various organizations throughout the community.
