Developed through a strategic partnership between the two organizations and building upon a legacy of institution-supported on-the-job training, this initiative aims to revolutionize regional workforce development. The collaborative effort between Memorial Healthcare, a leading mid-Michigan institution, and GST Michigan Works!, a workforce development agency, has created an apprenticeship program that promises to shape the future of skilled labor in the community. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both entities, this program offers a unique opportunity.

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program caters to the escalating need for proficient experts in the dynamic neurodiagnostic field. With the rapid advancements in medical technology and the increasing prevalence of neurological disorders, there is a pressing demand for highly skilled professionals who can effectively perform neurodiagnostic procedures. Recognizing this urgent need, Memorial Healthcare has taken a proactive approach by introducing the Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program. This leading program aims to equip aspiring individuals with the necessary knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience to excel in the specialized field of neurodiagnostic technology. will understand the intricacies involved in conducting neurodiagnostic tests, interpreting results, and providing vital support to healthcare professionals. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program at Memorial Healthcare is designed to provide a structured learning environment that combines classroom instruction with real-world application. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, apprentices can work alongside seasoned professionals, honing their skills.

This initiative, spearheaded by Kimberly Patterson, the Neurodiagnostic Outpatient Manager, marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare. While noting that the apprenticeship follows a long history of support for the professional development and advancement of employees at Memorial, Patterson expressed her delight in bringing this new opportunity forward. “We are thrilled to introduce the Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprenticeship Program at Memorial Healthcare,” she stated. “Creating career growth opportunities with the ability to promote from within is truly a gift to both staff and employer. We hope this is the first of many apprenticeships here at Memorial.”

Apprentices in the Neurodiagnostic Technologist program will receive 290 hours of instructor-led lead didactic instruction through ASET while completing 4,000 hours of hands-on work experience at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, MI.

Melissa Buehler and Amber Decker are current Memorial Healthcare employees who accepted the new position as Neurodiagnostic Technologist Apprentices. When each of the apprentices was asked what they were looking forward to in this new chapter of their professional careers, Decker said, “I’m very excited to start the program and learn a new skill set. I’m also so happy this opportunity is at Memorial Healthcare.” Buehler also responded, “I think this is a wonderful opportunity that Memorial Hospital is offering employees. It allows us to broaden our skill set and knowledge while gaining a valuable education for our future.”

GST Michigan Works! is a registered apprenticeship intermediary and sponsor approved by the U.S. Department of Labor and provides free intermediary services to any employer interested in starting a program. Employers wanting to expand their current programs can also use these services.
