A Passion for Care Leads to Career Growth

Since 2016, Leslie has worked as a nurse aide at an assisted living facility, a role she has truly enjoyed because of her passion for caring for others. Over time, however, Leslie began thinking about advancing her career in the medical field by transitioning from a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Determined to achieve her goal, Leslie enrolled in St. Clair County Community College classes and began her journey toward becoming an LPN. Through friends, she learned about financial grants available through GST Michigan Works! and decided to meet with a Career Coach to explore her options. After their meeting, Leslie found she was  eligible for training assistance. The assistance she received provided funding to help cover tuition, books, and her state licensing fee.

Leslie completed her training in just three semesters and earned her LPN credential. Shortly after finishing her program, she achieved her goal of advancing within her current workplace and received a $5.00 per hour wage increase in recognition of her new qualifications!
