Designed for Success

For over 100 years, the Toledo Commutator Company has been an industry leader in producing commutators, springs, and related products that help keep the world in motion. Their products are used in a variety of commercial, scientific, and military applications. Due to the precise requirements of their products, engineers must possess the right skill set to design them. This expertise is gained over time, and not everyone has all the qualifications straight out of college.

Toledo Commutator has the foresight to invest in young graduates, training them to meet the company’s current and future engineering needs. GST Michigan Works! is proud to support this effort by offering the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program to Toledo Commutator.

The company hired a recent engineering graduate who had academic training but lacked practical experience. After meeting with a career coach, we developed an individualized training plan that benefited both the new hire and the company. By working closely with seasoned design engineers, the new hire gained valuable hands-on experience and began taking on design responsibilities, becoming a contributing member of the team.

Toledo Commutator utilized $2,600 of the OJT funding through GST Michigan Works! to invest in their newest engineer. This additional training will help maintain the quality reputation Toledo Commutator has built, ensuring the company continues to grow and replace retiring engineers.
