From Suddenly Unemployed, To Happily Reemployed

Danielle arrived at GST Michigan Works! looking serious and job-ready. She had to be. She recently lost her job of four and a half years. Her expected contributions to her household had just disappeared. She said her husband was still employed. But the single income wasn’t enough for the two of them and their two-year-old toddler.

She was formerly employed as a full-time quality manager for an automotive dealership. The new reality was that she possessed a specific skill set with limited opportunities available in the area. She was even trying to implement some of her older degree-based skill sets.  She produced a diverse list of recent applications to prove it. No one was responding with offers to interview her. That had to change, and soon.

Her career coach suggested using the resume workshop to extract some transferable skills that would be relevant to slightly different industries. Henry Ford Health and a few pharmacy technician positions were discussed. The Pure Michigan Talent Connect job search tutorial resulted in Danielle’s application to Delta Dental. Finally, interviews were starting to be scheduled.

Shortly thereafter, an offer of employment was made by two different employers. Now her new dilemma was choosing which to accept. She decided to accept the offer from Delta Dental for the full-time Services Compliance Liaison position, where she is now earning almost two dollars more per hour than she did in her previous job with benefits!
