Part of Something Bigger than Myself

Part of Something Bigger than Myself

Nathaniel had proudly served as a Corrections Deputy with Genesee County since February 2020. With a clear vision for his future, he was ready to take the next step in his law enforcement career—while continuing to serve the community he cared about.

Thanks to the strong partnership between Genesee County, Mott Community College, and GST Michigan Works!, Nathaniel was referred to our team to explore his next move: attending the Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy (LERTA).

During his initial meeting with a Career Coach, Nathaniel completed a career self-assessment that confirmed his strong alignment with law enforcement and public safety. GST Michigan Works! was able to fund his training through the Industry Infinity grant while he remained employed with the county.

Nathaniel received support for tuition, uniforms, required equipment, and professional clothing for the Police Academy. To help ease the daily commute to Mott’s Fenton location, he also received mileage reimbursement, removing a major barrier and helping him stay focused on his training.

On May 1, 2025, Nathaniel successfully completed the program and earned his Certificate of Completion—a major milestone in his law enforcement journey.

Throughout the process, Nathaniel was a model participant. He was prompt with documentation, communicated regularly, and consistently expressed gratitude for the support he received.

Now officially serving as a police officer with Genesee County, Nathaniel is living out his purpose. He shared:

“I wanted to become a police officer to protect those who can’t protect themselves and be part of something greater than myself.”

Nathaniel’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to public service make him an outstanding example of how determination and community support can come together to create meaningful impact. GST Michigan Works! is proud to have played a small part in helping him achieve his goals.
