When One Door Closes, Another One Opens

Wendy walked into her local GST Michigan Works! the day the job she loved and worked for the past 23 years closed their doors. She didn’t know anything about unemployment and came in seeking assistance with filing a claim. She ended up finding a lot more than she expected.  The Tuscola Service Center offered her help and support that guided her through this difficult time in her life. 

Within a week of walking through their doors, Wendy had filed her unemployment claim, registered for work, completed the intake process, and started Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) training at the Tuscola County Technical Center. She was well on her way down her new career path.

While enrolled in training, Wendy visited the office weekly to use the resources and even brought her daughter along. They both completed all five Basic Computer Skills classes: Windows, Basic Keyboarding, Effective Internet Tools, Emailing, Microsoft Word, and Excel. She utilized the resource center to certify her weeks for unemployment. She worked with her Career Coach and created a personal and effective resume that fit her new career path.  

After Wendy completed her CMA training at the Tuscola County Technical Center, she started preparing for her state exam while searching for employment. Her Career Coach sent her employment leads, and she kept in touch regarding her interviews.
