ReStoring Hope

In September 2025, Christy, a determined single mother, connected with GST Michigan Works! in Caro to participate in the PATH program. Focused on creating stability and a brighter future for her family, Christy actively engaged in job search and job readiness activities, consistently demonstrating motivation, resilience, and commitment.

Within a few weeks, Christy’s career coach placed her at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, where she completed her required weekly hours through community service while gaining valuable hands-on work experience. Christy quickly distinguished herself, earning consistent praise from the ReStore manager for her strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude.

Throughout her journey, GST Michigan Works! provided supportive services that helped remove barriers to employment and ensured Christy remained on a clear path to success. Reflecting on her experience, Christy shared, “How grateful I am for all the support the team at GST Michigan Works! has given me. You all have been so kind and helpful, including emotionally, when I felt like giving up. Thank you!” This encouragement allowed Christy to stay focused, motivated, and confident in her abilities.

Christy’s dedication soon led to a job offer from the ReStore. She quickly thrived in her role, and her commitment and leadership potential did not go unnoticed. As a result, Christy has since been promoted to Assistant Store Manager, a testament to her hard work and the trust she has earned from her employer. She continues to enjoy meaningful work while achieving increased self-sufficiency. Her employment has provided financial stability, strengthened her confidence, and enabled her to support herself and her family independently. Christy shared, “I really believe in the company’s mission,” and her employer has repeatedly recognized her as an excellent worker and a valued member of the team.

Christy’s success doesn’t stop there. Motivated to continue building her future, she will begin school at the end of January to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant. This next step reflects her long-term commitment to growth, stability, and creating even greater opportunities for her family.
