Training to Help Serve Shiawassee County

Since 1902, the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce (SRCC) has been an integral part of the county’s business community, dedicated to economic growth. Serving nearly 500 members, the Chamber’s impact is felt in all corners of Shiawassee County. Assisting with information and working with and supporting many county-wide programs is a daunting task, especially for a staff of two. When the need arose to replace the Administrative/Business Manager, the Chamber had large shoes to fill. 

After a thorough candidate search, the decision was made to offer the position to Jamie. Although Jamie had many qualities and experience, she still needed more training in specific “Chamber” requirements. That is when SRCC reached out to GST Michigan Works! (GST) for training assistance. Working with their Business Solutions Professional (BSP), Chris, a training plan was put together for Jamie using On-the-Job-Training (OJT) funds through GST’s WIOA program. 

The 240-hour plan helped Jamie get the skills needed to perform the duties of her new position. She now assists in running the Chamber seamlessly, overseeing marketing, events, finances, and membership relations.

Our chamber was able to participate in the On-the-Job-Training program to help cover the cost of training our new team member for a brand-new role within our organization. This program really helped us hit the ground running with our new hire!”
