258 Strong: Skilled Trades Expo Energizes the Workforce
On Friday, February 27th, GST Michigan Works! hosted a successful Skilled Trades Career Expo, bringing together job seekers and employers from across Genesee County and beyond for a day focused on opportunity, connection, and career growth.
With 258 job seekers in attendance and 25 employers actively participating, the event created a dynamic environment where individuals could explore high-demand careers in the skilled trades while engaging directly with hiring representatives from some of the best companies Genesee County has to offer. An astounding 120 of the 258 candidates who attended the Skilled Trades Career Expo were first-time job seekers at GST Michigan Works! Flint Service Center, helping to expand our reach in the community!
Throughout the Expo, job seekers had the opportunity to learn about apprenticeship programs, entry-level openings, career advancement pathways, and the certifications required to enter various skilled trades. Employers shared insight into their company culture, workforce needs, and the long-term stability that careers in skilled trades can offer. Many attendees left with interview invitations, next steps for applying, and a clearer understanding of how to move forward in their career journey.
The strong employer turnout reflects the ongoing demand for skilled talent in industries such as manufacturing, construction, HVAC, electrical, heavy equipment operating, and other technical trades. By creating space for face-to-face interaction, the Skilled Trades Career Expo strengthened the partnership between local businesses and GST Michigan Works! while helping bridge the gap between talent and opportunity.
Events like the Skilled Trades Career Expo demonstrate GST Michigan Works! continued commitment to building a skilled talent pipeline and supporting regional economic growth. With hundreds of meaningful conversations taking place throughout the day, the impact of this event will extend far beyond the expo floor.
We thank the 25 employers who invested their time and expertise, and the 258 job seekers who took the next step toward a career in the skilled trades.
