Academic Excellence

Maddy is a standout student and athlete from the Sanilac County area, known for her academic achievements, graduating high school with a 4.0, notable athletic participation, and recognized work in the Michigan agriculture industry. Her hard work paid off and earned her many scholarships towards her Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management at Michigan State University.

During the summer break of 2025, Maddy heard that GST Michigan Works! has scholarships for college students. She contacted the Sanilac Office to see if she was eligible; even though she did receive a fair number of other scholarships, she still had a balance due. Maddy met with Career Coach Cindy. They discussed her options, made a plan, and scheduled her sponsorship application. GST Michigan Works! was able to alleviate the financial pressure of the last two semesters of her bachelor’s degree.

Since she participated in dual enrollment during high school, she completed her bachelor’s degree in three years while maintaining a Dean’s List status every semester. During summer breaks, she gained entry-level experience in the agriculture industry and even interned at the Michigan Agri-Business Association in the Public Policy division.

Maddy started her new job at Wilbur-Ellis Company, which provides agricultural services in Sanilac County, less than two weeks after completing her bachelor’s degree. She is working full-time as a Field Scout until it is decided what position would be the best fit for her and Wilbur-Ellis. She is slightly sad that her formal education has concluded but is excited to start her career in agribusiness.
