Upgrading Skills to Grow with Company

Huron County – Cory started working with Kappen Tree Service in March of 2023 as a Woodsman. One of the first steps in a career with Kappen Tree Service is their week-long “Boot Camp.”  Cory was assigned to attend at the end of April, then had 90 days to obtain his CDL Class A to continue his employment. Cory completed that training within two months, and in July, he achieved his goal of earning CDL Class A license. Cory was now on track to enter a Tree Trimmer apprenticeship with the company. GST Michigan Works! was able to assist Cory with tuition, testing and license fees, and mileage in order to complete his certification.

“I am very thankful for the help from GST Michigan Works! paying for tuition, testing and license fees and mileage. I now have my CDL A license and can grow with the company!” shares Cory.

He has now received a raise, additional hours, and has a new job title as a T-1 Apprentice in their three year Tree Trimmer apprenticeship program!
