Bridges to a Brighter Future
Genesee County – When Stanley entered the PATH program, he was a self-employed referee/umpire but really wanted to find a career. He worked to establish a plan that included coaching sessions along the way to help him succeed. He showed his determination by completing assessments , attending workshops, and updating his resume. Stanley decided he wanted to become a truck driver and because of his proven determination in the program, GST Michigan Works! assisted him to make it happen.
Stanley was referred to 160 Driving Academy and started training to obtain a CDL license. His hard work resulted in him completing at the top of his class and receiving a certificate of completion. Because of his stellar performance in class, he quickly obtained employment as a truck driver with Sysco Detroit Inc., working 50 hours per week! His continued employment has led to the closure of his case with DHHS and the approval of an auto purchase, which addressed the very last barrier to his continued success. Since that time, he has been able to take advantage of another employment opportunity much closer to home earning an even better wage and benefits. When approached about being highlighted as a GST Michigan Works! Success Story, Stanley expressed excitement. He shared how grateful he was for the PATH program. It helped provide the well-needed support to focus on a brighter future.
