Area Employers Awarded over $3.8M for Training Through FY24 Cycle 1 of Going PRO Talent Fund
Seventy-two area employers across Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, Shiawassee, and Tuscola counties were awarded a total of $3,835,102 to train current and new employees and apprentices. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) invests Going PRO Talent Fund grants in employers through Michigan’s workforce system and a competitive application process.
The Talent Fund is designed to assist employers in training, developing, and retaining current and newly hired employees. Training courses are typically short-term and fill a demonstrated training need experienced by the employer. Training must lead to a credential for a transferable skill recognized by the industry.
“GST Michigan Works! is excited to announce that we have secured a total of $3.8 Million dollars in FY24 Cycle 1 Going PRO Awards. These funds will allow seventy-two of our local employers to upskill current employees and train incoming employees. GST Michigan Works! Business Solutions Professionals (BSPs) work diligently to assist our local employers in applying for and securing a Going PRO Talent Fund award that allows the awardees to provide training to their employees throughout the training period. Our BSPs are available to all local employers to assist them throughout the award to ensure they can utilize the entire award and receive those reimbursement dollars,” states Cindy Thornthwaite, Business Services Manager, Genesee & Shiawassee Counties.
