Climbing the Ladder

Jacob always knew he wanted a career where he could make a real difference. With a growing interest in law enforcement and a drive to advance, he turned to GST Michigan Works! for support in taking the next step.

Working with career coaches, Jacob identified the skills and knowledge needed to transition into a patrol officer role. He had a clear goal: to attend the Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy (LERTA) at Mott Community College, a program designed to meet the employment standards for officers in Michigan.

Thanks to funding through the GST Michigan Works!, Jacob was enrolled in LERTA, with tuition, uniforms, and required gear fully covered. He described the training as “challenging but fun” and successfully completed the program in December 2023. By February 2024, Jacob was officially hired as a Patrol Officer with Genesee County.

Now, more than a year later, Jacob continues to serve the community, helping keep roads safe and lawfully patrolled. Looking ahead, he aspires to become a detective and is grateful for the opportunities made possible through GST Michigan Works!
