Skilled Trades Provide Stability: Clifford’s Journey to Success

Clifford’s story is one of resilience and determination. In 2018, he completed the Michigan Apprentice Readiness Program at GST Michigan Works!, launching his career as a Millwright Apprentice. Unfortunately, Clifford was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with injuries that required significant time to recover from. During this recovery period, he lost his position. Later that year, Clifford secured a welding job and, despite many ongoing challenges, including single parenthood, transportation issues, and financial hardship, he stayed committed to building a better future.

Seven years later, Clifford was in another accident, totaling his vehicle. Unable to afford a new one, he was faced with the daunting prospect of being unable to commute to work. With bills piling up and the pressure mounting, Clifford had no choice but to apply for Family Independence Program (FIP) benefits and enroll in the PATH program.

Despite these struggles, Clifford’s resolve never wavered. He knew exactly what he needed to do to turn his life around. With the support of his career coach, Clifford showed unwavering determination to get back on his feet. He remained focused on his goals, never losing sight of the future he wanted to build for himself and his daughter.

In February 2025, Clifford secured a position with Tradesmen International as an apprentice electrician, earning 25% more than at his last job. Clifford shared, “If it wasn’t for the PATH program, I’m not sure where I would be right now. PATH helped me with transportation, tools, everything I needed to move forward.”

He now provides a stable and comfortable life for his family, showing that any obstacle can be overcome with determination, hard work, and the right support. Clifford’s success story is a powerful reminder that setbacks are just temporary, and perseverance in the face of adversity leads to a brighter future.
