Strengthening Workforce Skills
Johnson & Wood LLC maximized the $121,000 Going PRO Talent Fund Award by creating meaningful training opportunities that directly supported new hires and existing employees. The company is equipping its workforce with the technical, academic, and professional skills needed to thrive in a competitive industry.
Through partnerships with union apprenticeship programs, local colleges, and universities, Johnson & Wood expanded access to classroom and on-the-job training. A total of 42 employees benefited, including 6 new hires and 36 current employees. The majority advanced through USDOL Registered Apprenticeships in plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC service. The apprenticeship training alone accounted for over $119,000 of investment, strengthening long-term career pathways.
In addition to skilled trades training, Johnson & Wood supported employees pursuing college-credit courses at Mott Community College and Central Michigan University, covering areas such as financial analysis, organizational behavior, data analysis, and digital promotion. This investment ensures that their workforce not only gains trade expertise but also develops business and analytical skills that contribute to organizational growth.
With an average hourly wage of $30.68, well above the regional median, Johnson & Wood is demonstrating its commitment to building a high-skill, high-wage workforce. By leveraging the Going PRO Talent Fund, the company is reducing skills gaps, accelerating career advancement, and preparing new and existing employees for long-term success in Michigan’s economy.
