Driving Towards A Brighter Future

Driving Towards A Brighter Future

Jakob first connected with the Family Literacy Center (FLC) in January 2026 with a goal of continuing his education at Mott Community College. In an impressive accomplishment, he earned his GED after just one month of tutoring. At the same time, Jakob was participating in a supportive housing program, where he remained focused on building stability, maintaining employment, and creating a better future for himself.

Through his work with FLC, Jakob secured employment and continued to invest in his personal growth by regularly attending Life Skills classes. There, he has focused on developing healthy relationships, navigating adult responsibilities, and building the tools needed for long-term success. His commitment to growth and self-improvement has remained consistent throughout his journey.

While working with Jakob on his WIOA application, his FLC coach identified transportation as a potential barrier to maintaining employment. Recognizing how critical reliable transportation is, FLC partnered with GST Michigan Works! to explore available solutions. Through the Talent Growth and Barrier Initiative Funding Grant and with coordinated support from both organizations, Jakob was able to quickly gather the necessary documentation and purchase a reliable vehicle within just one week.

Having dependable transportation has removed a significant barrier and provided Jakob with greater independence and stability. This support has allowed him to focus on his goals with increased confidence as he continues to move forward.

Jakob expressed sincere appreciation for the support he received and recognized the impact that community organizations have had on his journey.
