Tours Open New Doors for JMG Students

Students in the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Career Association recently planned a hands-on learning experience that focused on career exploration and college readiness.
The day began with an interactive presentation from Consumers Energy, where students learned about the company’s impact across Michigan and explored a variety of career paths, ranging from entry-level positions to skilled trades and degree-based professions. Examples included maintenance, customer service, welding, dispatch, linework, human resources, engineering, and information technology. Students also learned about the growing energy industry and the company’s commitment to renewable energy.
Next, at Baker College of Owosso, the admissions staff shared information with students about their academic programs, tuition, financial aid and scholarships, student clubs, and campus resources. Students toured the campus, including the residence halls and the Auto Diesel Institute of Michigan (ADI), where hands-on training opportunities interested many students.
Overall, the experience was informative and engaging. Students interacted with industry professionals and explored post-secondary options, reinforcing key concepts discussed throughout the school year and encouraging them to think more deeply about their future education and career goals.
