Lapeer County – GST Michigan Works! in Lapeer had the pleasure of working with Courtney Banks under the WIOA program from January 30th – May 23rd, 2019. During this time, Courtney was attending LAW Enforcement Regional Training Academy (LERTA) through Mott Community College in Fenton. This training prepares students for employment as a Police Office.

While working with Courtney, we were able to pay for her tuition along with supportive services such as mileage and items for her job. She stated that the guidance and follow up from GST Michigan Works! Associates was most helpful.

Courtney completed her program as planned, passed her state exam and quickly became employed through The City of Flint Police Department. Courtney faced some challenges from an early age. She was the daughter of a late Flint Police Officer and the daughter of a mother who had signed away her maternal responsibilities. Courtney had to overcome adversity and many trials in her life which she attributes to her drive and desire to be successful. Courtney completed her training on May 2nd and was hired by The City of Flint Police Department in May 2019.
