Miamor Harris is an Out of School Youth participant from the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Flint Healthcare Employment Opportunities (FHEO) Program, a GST Michigan Works! Service Provider. Miamor learned about the FHEO Program from Morr Workforce Development, after inquiring about Medical Assistant training. Miamor shared that she has always enjoyed studying health sciences and had previously taken healthcare courses in high school. After attending an Information Session, Miamor knew the FHEO Program provided the perfect opportunity for her to start her medical career.
Once accepted into the FHEO Program, Miamor completed 120 hours of Life Skills and Healthcare Career Exploration training at Flint STRIVE. During this time, Miamor started that the most important lesson she learned is, “to always be on time, be a team player, and always speak the truth.” Miamor graduated from the Medical Assistant program at Mott Workforce Development in June 2019. Miamor shared that she enjoyed her training experience and felt prepared to enter the workforce.
After training, Miamor accepted a position with Mid-Michigan Kidney and Hypertension Specialists, PC as a Medical Assistant. When asked about her new career, Miamor stated, “I am working in a great environment that makes me feel secure and confident as a Medical Assistant.” In March 2020, Miamor took the Registered Medical Assistant exam and passed!
Congratulations, Miamor, as you reach your goals in the medical field!
