LEVELING UP in Healthcare Pays Off

Genesee County – August of 2019, Jeree Brown entered GST Michigan Works! looking for assistance with training funds, and she was ultimately referred to the PATH program. Already aware of her desired career pathway, Jeree met with her Career Coach. In the initial sessions, Jeree worked with her Coach to identify specific barriers holding her back from achieving her goals. Together, they created a plan designed to help her achieve both short and long-term goals.

Jeree already had over 10 years of experience in the medical field as a Home Health Aide and a Certified Nurse Assistant. She decided to return to school to pursue her goal of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Working with her Career Coach, Jeree was able to stabilize her transportation barrier with help updating vehicle registration and transportation expenses.
Jeree enrolled in the LPN program with Dorsey School in Saginaw, beginning her program in August of 2019. While attending training, Jeree maintained correspondence with her Career Coach, sharing progress reports and celebrations after each completed module. Determined to complete her training, Jeree transitioned to online courses during the 2020 Pandemic and successfully graduated in August of 2020.

Jeree passed her State exam, and even better than that… landed a job offer after only one virtual interview! Jeree accepted a position with Willowbrook Manor in September of 2020. Now a Licensed Practical Nurse, Jeree is earning nearly double the salary of her former positions. When asked about her new position Jeree stated that the long work hours per day were a big adjustment for her family, but thankfully they understands the need for her services. Jeree plans to remain in her position learning and gaining skills before continuing her education to become a Registered Nurse. Thank you Jeree! You are a HERO in so many ways!
