Climbing The Healthcare Ladder With The Clinical Medical Assistant Program

Tuscola County – Adrainne came to the Caro GSTMW! office in December of 2019 searching for the opportunity to make a minor change in her career. She had been working in the healthcare industry as a CNA since 1997, but was looking to discontinue working on the floor with patients and shifting to assisting them in an office setting as a Medical Assistant.

Adrainne began the Clinical Medical Assistant program through the Tuscola Technology Center in Caro in February 2020. The class was scheduled to run 2/10/20 – 6/4/20 until the Covid pandemic hit. In April the class was moved to online learning only and the instructor did her best to keep the class moving in a progressive direction.

Of course, Medical Assistant training requires hands-on learning to successfully complete the course. By mid-July and Adrainne was thrilled to finally be able to begin her clinical portion of the program.  She stated, “I love the class, it is so much fun.”  In August 2020, Adrainne completed the requirements of the course and earned her certificate of completion for the CNA program.  Shortly after, she received assistance creating a professional resume and by Mid-October she was offered a full-time position at McLaren Thumb Region as a Medical Assistant making an excellent wage.

Although she had found employment, Adrainne still wanted to be stated certified, so she took her NHA exam on 1/4/21 and passed! The pandemic may have slowed Adrianne’s plans down temporarily, but she did not let that get in the way of pursuing her accomplishments. Among all of the assistance she received, Adrainne noted special appreciation of the follow-through and regular contact from her Career Coach throughout her experience with GST Michigan Works!, as well as the financial assistance provided to help her each step of the way.
