A Journey Toward Success

Sanilac County – Anthony came into GST Michigan Works! in Sanilac County in December of 2022. He had a minimal work history and felt he had inadequate job skills. Some of these feelings came from living with a disability. Anthony has struggled with a physical disability, leaving him with a lack of self-confidence and feelings of trepidation to enroll in training for a career. 

After eligibility determination with his GST Michigan Works! supporters, and much encouragement from his mom, Kathy, he finally gained the courage to take the next step by enrolling in training with Thumb CDL in Deckerville, MI. He started completing each step of the program with ease and found himself enjoying his training! This helped him gain confidence and enter a comfort zone while finishing the rest of the training. 

Upon program completion, Anthony started looking for employment. He applied to several places but was having trouble securing employment when he received a call from his Career Coach. The manager of a local lumber company, Breiton Lumber, had stopped into the GST Michigan Works! Sandusky office desperately in search of a CDL-A truck driver. Anthony was thrilled for the lead and applied for the position immediately. He was hired on the spot and continues to work hard and enjoy his job!

Anthony is a success and a great example of how GST Michigan Works! helps train the workforce for the positions that local employers need and works to get the two connected!
