Your Future Is Worth FIighting For

Lapeer County – Gladis began working in healthcare in 2016, transitioning from a maintenance position to a Registered Medical Assistant.  Healthcare offered her a more rewarding career path, a better work schedule, and increased opportunities.  She has a young family but wanted to pursue better opportunities and knew that furthering her education in healthcare would be an investment in her and her family.  

While working full-time, she enrolled in a 1-year LPN program and said it was the hardest thing she had done.  With the support of her family, she was able to work around her school schedule and still focus on her LPN credential.  Qualifying for a grant through GST Michigan Works! to assist with tuition alleviated some of the stress in the last few months of the program.  She was able to step back on work a little and focus on the final portion of the course that encompassed some of the more difficult classes of the program. The funding she received from GST was also able to assist with mileage on weeks when her hours were low, relieving some of the stress.

She worked hard to keep her grades up, and shortly after graduation, she was able to see all her hard work pay off.  Gladis is now working full-time as an LPN and almost doubled her income!  She feels that giving back and helping people has been at the core of her work from the beginning, and she sees this new career as an opportunity to help even more.
