Employers Are Everywhere!

Lapeer County – GST Michigan Works! in Lapeer County has a long history of collaboration with Lapeer Teamwork. The two agencies share a common goal of assisting in training and employment services. The partnership with Lapeer Teamwork and the “Young Professionals” youth program started in the Summer of 2023.  Lapeer Teamwork provided a work experience opportunity for a participant interested in exploring a career in the human service field. 

The local community rehabilitation organization is not only a partner by providing youth participants a “Work Experience” through the Young Professionals program but a provider of full-time employment as well!

Lapeer Teamwork needed to hire job coaches to assist their trainees in supported employment as they worked at job sites. GST Michigan Works! in Lapeer helped them locate job seekers through hiring events and referrals. When the opportunity of being a paid work host site was presented to Teamwork, they eagerly took on Dustin – a “Young Professionals” participant – as a Job Coach. 

Lapeer Teamwork provided on-site training for Dustin to excel as a Job Coach. After his paid work experience, Dustin was hired full-time to continue his Job Coaching role. Dustin expressed that he didn’t know what to expect walking into the work experience but was delighted to continue in a job he loves while saving money for college and planning his future.
