From Trial to Full-Time

Sanilac County – GST Michigan Works! first met Shelby at the Sanilac Career Center. Shelby was a high school senior at Brown City High School. She was attending the Graphic Design Program. Over the course of the semester, career coaches interviewed many students for potential work experience programming. Shelby was undoubtedly one of the standouts. She was sweet and respectful, but above all, she had a passion for graphic design.  GST Michigan Works! staff went to work to find her a worksite that would accommodate her interest in graphic design to offer her a youth work experience.

Luckily, that worksite was right in Shelby’s hometown of Brown City at Laser Impressions, a local print shop. Because Shelby was not interested in attending college and wanted to find long-term employment, she went to work with desire and determination to do the very best she could.  Shelby’s work experience  with Laser Impressions was scheduled to last for 60 days. At her mid-term evaluation, Shelby proved to be a shining star. She continued to work hard, proving herself to be an asset the company could not do without!

At the end of her Youth Work Experience, Laser Impressions hired Shelby to stay on with the company full-time! This work experience proved to be a WIN-WIN for both the customer and the employer.
