Veteran’s Driving Dreams

Jacob is a 23-year-old veteran who wanted to start a career in truck driving. He reached out to GST Michigan Works! Fenton Service Center to see if he would qualify for assistance in meeting that goal. As an eligible veteran,  GST assisted Jacob in receiving his CDL-A license through 160 Driving Academy.

Upon completion of his training, Jacob was having trouble finding a driver position because he had no experience. Luckily, Business Solutions Professional (BSP), Roy, had been working with a local company to fill some openings and knew of a position at McDunnough Inc. for a hybrid Warehouse/Driver position.  In discussing the position with Jacob, Roy was able to determine that Jacob had forklift operating experience, as well, which made him a perfect match for the opening at McDunnough.  Roy made the referral to the company and they scheduled an interview with Jacob for the next day.

Two weeks later, Jacob reached out to Roy to let him know that he had been hired for the position!

GST Michigan Works! was able to offer McDunnough Inc. the opportunity to use the OJT (On-the-Job Training) Program funds to help with wage reimbursement for his training period. Jacob completed his On-The-Job Training period and Roy was able to hand deliver a check in the amount of $2,160.00 to McDunnough for Jacob’s On-The-Job Training.
