Dedicated to Nursing

Kylee graduated from high school in May of 2020. She started her new journey by attending Baker College in general education. She held a few part-time jobs while she attended those classes, but she quickly decided that wasn’t the route she wanted to take. Her interest was in the medical field, and she decided to follow that path.

In July 2021, Kylee moved to St. Clair County Community College to attend the Nursing program. Her new goal was to get an associate’s degree in nursing so she could help others. As she made her way through her first year at SC4 she was able to also secure a full-time position at McLaren of Port Huron as a Tech/Nurse Assistant. There, she was able to gain some valuable experience!

Kylee was working hard and keeping up with her studies. A financial aid counselor at the college had told Kylee about GST Michigan Works! and grant funding that could help take some of the financial stress off her shoulders. Kylee reached out to GST Michigan Works! and set up an appointment with a Career Coach. Kylee was able to qualify for WIOA funding and received $5,000 towards the cost of her schooling. GST Michigan Works was able to put money towards tuition, books, and pay for the NCLEX and licensing fees!

Kylee completed her classes at SC4 in May 2025. Shortly after she completed, she was able to secure a full-time position in June 2025 as a Registered Nurse at Harper University Hospital in Detroit and received a pay increase of $16.50 per hour!  Kylee said that working with GST Michigan Works! made schooling and life so much easier during such a busy time!
