Working & Serving Where the Need Is Great

After being unemployed long-term, Matthew faced challenges in re-entering the workforce. With a strong desire to help others and inspired by his family’s careers in healthcare, he began volunteering in supportive roles within the field. He assisted with transporting patients to appointments and even provided some personal care for those in need. These experiences helped him build both confidence and a sense of purpose.

Once he felt ready to take the next step, Matthew enrolled in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training through Sokol Healthcare Training. With support from GST Michigan Works!, including tuition assistance, mileage reimbursement, and help with his resume, Matthew successfully completed his training on February 21, 2025.

Within a month, he secured full-time employment at Fisher Convalescent as a Certified Nursing Assistant, earning a great hourly wage. His commitment to helping others is now part of his daily work, and a clear source of pride.

Reflecting on his journey, Matthew shared, “It was a wonderful opportunity. This job will allow me to have a career and really help people!”
