From New Beginnings to Full-Time Employment

After relocating from Florida, Geonel came to GST Michigan Works! looking for employment opportunities and a chance to build a stable future for himself and his mother. Motivated and eager to work, he connected with a Career Coach who quickly recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program as an Out-of-School Youth. He also began participating in Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) to strengthen his job readiness skills.

Although he had limited work experience, having previously worked part-time at a grocery store, Geonel was determined to grow professionally. He was placed in Paid Work Experience at GST Michigan Works! as an Administrative Assistant, where he quickly made a positive impression. Geonel consistently showed up on time, came prepared to work, and demonstrated a strong work ethic. His bilingual skills proved to be a valuable asset to the team, improving communication and customer service.

With the help of transportation support services, Geonel was able to maintain reliable attendance and fully engage in his role. Due to his excellent performance, Geonel was offered a full-time position with benefits at the Flint office of GST Michigan Works! in the PATH program. 

He was an excellent contributor to the team, until he had the ability to accept a better offer with Chase Bank. We are thrilled at the opportunity to help this young man succeed!
