Pathway to Self-Sufficiency
After working as a dedicated schoolteacher, Terri’s life took an unexpected turn when unforeseen medical issues forced her to step away from the career she loved. On top of her health challenges, she was navigating a new chapter as a single mother, determined to provide stability for her young daughter.
Unsure of her next steps, she connected with the PATH program through GST Michigan Works! With their encouragement, resources, and one-on-one support, she began to rebuild her confidence and explore new career opportunities that aligned with her passion for helping others.
Through the program, Terri was introduced to a position as a Behavioral Technician at Thumb Area Psychological Services. The role allowed her to utilize her background in education in a new and impactful way, working closely with individuals in need of behavioral and educational support.
Terri has continued to advance in her new field and is currently preparing to take her certification exam to become a Certified Behavioral Technician. Following certification, she will begin a three-semester university program to earn her degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis. Upon completion, she will receive a substantial pay increase and take on greater responsibilities within her organization.
It’s an exciting time for Terri, who says she loves her work and finds it deeply rewarding to help children overcome the challenges of autism. Today, she is thriving in her career, proud of the progress she’s made, and grateful for the support system provided by GST Michigan Works! that helped her move forward with confidence and purpose.
