From A Doubting Shadow to a Shining Light: A Success Story of Persistence & Growing Confidence

Joyann came to the GST Michigan Works! office to attend the PATH program orientation. She was feeling a range of emotions and was full of anxiety about the future. For the past 22 years, she had been a stay-at-home mother of seven. Having never entered the workforce, her support system was weak, and so was her confidence. 

With the weight of the world on her shoulders, Joyann took the PATH requirements in stride, going above and beyond to meet her required hours. She found herself at a crossroads: should she stick with what’s comfortable or take a chance on herself? After much thought, she decided to register for CNA training and didn’t look back. Joyann adapted easily to her coursework, passing her tests with flying colors, and was at the top of her class. 

She did her research, volunteered when it wasn’t required, and ended up gaining employment at the Sanilac Medical Care Facility. Her bright personality, attention to detail, and caring bedside manner put her above the rest. She aspires to continue her education and obtain her nursing degree.

Over the course of 8 weeks, Joyann’s courage, determination, and pure tenacity have transformed not only her future but her self-worth.
