Precision Training Drives Workforce Excellence

Stemco, located in Millington, Michigan, is an advanced manufacturer of heavy-duty truck and trailer parts. If you’ve ever noticed a semi-truck’s wheel caps or suspension components, there’s a good chance Stemco’s products are part of what keeps it running smoothly. Specializing in seals, bearings, hubcaps, kingpins, suspension parts, brake components, and tire/mileage solutions, the company is committed to delivering high-performance systems that increase safety, extend component life, and lower maintenance costs for trucking fleets.

A key component of achieving these goals lies in investing in employee skills. To ensure the production of precise, high-quality parts and strengthen overall safety and efficiency, Stemco identified GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) training as a priority. This training improves employees’ ability to produce parts correctly, reduces scrap and rework, enhances communication, and provides opportunities for professional growth.

 

Working closely with GST Michigan Works!, Stemco identified a narrow window to train employees before the end-of-year deadline. Leveraging available funding, the company accessed $2,970 through the Industry Infinity Incumbent Worker Training grant. With rapid coordination among management, training dates were finalized, participants were selected, and the GD&T Fundamentals course was scheduled for completion by December 4, 2025.

The training, delivered by the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC), was conducted on-site, providing hands-on application of the concepts in a real-world setting. Six employees successfully completed the course and earned Certificates of Completion. 

“The training provided valuable knowledge that can be directly applied to daily work, bolstering skills critical for growth and future business opportunities,” said Stemco’s Kimberly Byers. 

By responding quickly to workforce training needs and strategically using available resources, Stemco strengthened its team’s capabilities while supporting operational excellence and company growth. The investment in employee skills ensures that Stemco is ready not only to meet current production demands but also to take on future opportunities with a highly skilled and confident workforce.
