Training Success with People Who Have Autism

Sanilac – GSTMW assisted Jay & Kay with an Open House/Job Fair, which included a plant tour, job interview, and WIOA eligibility screening. Despite bad weather and loss of electricity, we were still able to secure at least one WIOA eligible candidate. He began the first day of his OJT the following Monday, and we have several OJT’s in process since then.  Jay & Kay is also involved in the STEP Into Work training program, and offering an employee referral bonus program, so many of the new OJT candidates have entered through this route. This process has revealed a new talent pool to Jay & Kay: people with autism. The company now has a small, but growing group of young, autistic people working for them. They are doing extremely well and have a bright future ahead of them! GST is very proud to support their training process.
