Second Chances

Anthony was referred to GST Michigan Works! (GSTMW!) via Catholic Charities’ Reconnect Program. At his orientation, he shared his determination for a second chance and not wanting to let his past define him. He was working part-time at Golden Corral and wished to get his CDL-A license, but couldn’t afford the training.

Anthony knew a CDL-A license would open a path to full-time work and a career. In January 2025, he started CDL-A training at Polyservice Driving School. GSTMW! paid his tuition and helped with clothing and mileage costs. During training, Anthony kept his job at Golden Corral.

He finished training in March 2025 and immediately looked for a CDL-A job. After some seasonal work with Broadlines, gaining experience, he sought new opportunities. “I’m already working on my next step,” he said. It didn’t take long, and within a week, he joined Lee’s Transportation, working 40 hours a week at a great wage. His new job required a GPS, which GSTMW! provided to ensure his future success.

Today, Anthony continues to work at Lee’s Transportation. He expressed gratitude, stating, “This program changed my life. It helped me make the complete 180 I was trying to do. You (GSTMW!) are really showing that you want to help people in the community. I love my job. I was able to get a second chance thanks to GSTMW!” With his dedication and the support available to him, Anthony is now doing something he enjoys and is building a brighter future.
