Briana’s Celebration of a Bright Future

Briana came to GST Michigan Works! through the FAE&T program with no previous work experience. Determined to prepare her for employment, she was referred to the WIOA Out of School Youth and Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) programs, where she built essential career readiness skills and gained valuable hands-on workplace experience.
To help remove barriers and support her path toward employment, Briana received supportive services through these programs, including mileage assistance, auto repairs, and work-appropriate clothing. These resources helped ensure she had the transportation, reliability, and professional appearance needed to successfully participate in a paid work experience.
Through these programs, Briana completed two paid work experiences that helped her develop confidence, professionalism, and practical job skills. Her final placement was at Hurley Medical Center, where she quickly made a lasting impression on staff with her strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to learning.
Recognizing her potential, the Volunteer Coordinator encouraged Briana to apply for several open positions within the hospital. That recommendation led to her being hired as a Court Clerk in the Behavioral Health Department—a career opportunity she had never considered before participating in the program.
Today, Briana is thriving in her role and is grateful for the opportunity that helped launch her career. Her journey highlights the power of paid work experience, career readiness training, supportive services, and personalized guidance in helping individuals overcome barriers, discover new career pathways, and achieve long-term employment success.
A Hurley Volunteer Coordinator shared, “As we prepare Bri’s final timesheet with us, I find myself reflecting on the incredible impact she has made on our organization. Bri is truly a shining example of dedication, kindness, and excellence. Her contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary, and her presence has uplifted us all. It’s difficult to put into words how much we have valued her unwavering commitment and positive spirit. Though I feel a tinge of sadness knowing she will no longer be here to assist me directly, I am incredibly proud and inspired by her next chapter. Bri has earned her new role here at Hurley as the Court Clerk for Behavioral Health—a position that resonates with her passion and talent. It’s a testament to her hard work, resilience, and the remarkable person she is. She has already left an indelible mark on us, and I am eager to see the wonderful things she will accomplish.”
