Certification Leads to Career

Sandusky – After graduating from Brown City High School in 2014, Aerianne tested a few positions working as a cashier, waitress, press operator, and caregiver.  In August of 2019, she decided that she wanted to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Working with Career Coach Cindy Zambron in the Sandusky Service Center, Aerianne, a single parent under the age of 24, qualified for the WIOA grant as an Out-of-School Youth.

In September 2019, she started her training at the Sanilac Career Center.   GSTMW! funded the total cost of tuition, books, and testing fees.  The agency was also able to provide assistance with purchasing Nursing scrubs, and mileage reimbursement, for which she was most appreciative.

Aerianne completed the CNA class in early November 2019 and took the state test by the end of the month.  Shortly after Aerianne was hired at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.  She loves her job and has increased her hourly wage by $6.40/hr and now has full benefits.
