Answering The Call To Serve
Tekeviohn’s story is about staying strong, learning, and finding his true path. After graduating from high school in Saginaw, he knew he wanted more for his future, and he wasn’t afraid to work for it. He took a big step forward by enrolling in Job Corps, determined to gain the skills he needed to build a better life.
While at Job Corps, Tekeviohn enrolled in both the WIOA Program and the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Program, where he received extra support and guidance from his Career Coach, Rosie. At first, he pursued Advanced Welding, earning a certification and gaining hands-on technical experience. But as he progressed with Job Corps, something deeper began to surface, his passion for helping others and keeping his community safe. He realized his heart wasn’t in the trades, it was in law enforcement.
With encouragement from Job Corps, the support of Rosie, and guidance from the GST Michigan Works! Fenton and Flint offices, Tekeviohn began his transition into law enforcement. In collaboration with the Flint Police Department, he was enrolled into Mott Community College’s Law Enforcement Regional Training Academy (LERTA). Through dedication, discipline, hard work, and heart, he completed the program and stepped into the uniform with pride.
The WIOA Program helped make his success possible by covering training costs, uniforms, mileage assistance, and technology support, all of which allowed him to stay focused and prepared.
One of his proudest moments was ringing the bell on his last day at Job Corps, knowing he had made it. Today, driven by a passion to serve and protect, Tekeviohn proudly serves as a Police Officer for the City of Flint!
